jozeph forakis… design have been shortlisted for the Interior Design – Concept in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards.

The client – CL Yachts – requested a complete, holistic reconsideration of yacht design and yachting experiences: a true ‘clean slate’ approach. Several key concepts were in play that resulted in this design.

Space and Spaces: a core concept was not only to increase overall volume and “space”, but also more diverse types of “spaces”, with smoothly overlapping and diversified zones for conviviality and privacy, relaxation, and work, entertaining and relaxation. This is evident with the “Terazzo Portoguese” – a unique open deck area forward of the Pilot House on the fly deck.

Exterior / Interior flow: the exterior and interior volumes flow together seamlessly – the feeling of the outdoors follows you everywhere inside. This is seen dramatically in the Main Deck House with an expansive, open, loft-like plan with full visibility from the aft cockpit entrance all the way to the large forward windscreen. Uninterrupted 360° views are made possible by the added strength of the all-composite ‘double-reverse’ House structure with extraordinary thin mullions allowing huge windows all around.

At midship, triple-folding doors transform formal meals into alfresco dining. Large windows are also featured in all the staterooms on the Lower Deck, with the master’s suite being dramatic composition of sculpted light, glass, wood, and composites.

Flexibility and Transformability: Many areas have movable and adjustable elements to allow different types of accommodations and activities throughout the day and night. The Pilot House, with fully automated side and aft windows, converts from open-air to weather-tight for carefree entertaining and safe seafaring in all conditions. The ‘Piazza del Sole’ forward deck is a vast, full beam area with adjustable sun beds which transforms into an aperitif lounge in the round.
