That Is ITH
The concept was derived from the district name “Ratchewi” which means The Royal Mistress and a Thai Belief of cycle of reincarnation – the old soul reborn in the new body. That is ITH created the overlapping of sheer layers of time from past to present to create a design that stands out. A mixture of new and old traditions and the modern elements that would remind of nostalgic moments. This sales gallery was created as a royal reception pavilion in the inner court of the palace gated with 2 layers of green belt surrounded with a water feature and the oversized peacock sculpture made in stainless steel – a symbol of a royal creature in Thai culture.
The designer’s favourite and key feature of the project is the oversized peacock sculpture made in polished stainless steel as this is an iconic symbol that is extremely important to Thai culture, so it has great importance in creating an element of grandeur to the project – a talking point to be proud of. The Thai-Tiered umbrella like chandelier in the lobby area also helps to create grandeur as it is modern yet reflecting the ambience of traditional culture in a subtle way. It creates the right feeling for the space as it is not too overwhelming but elegant.
The design fits into the wider environment as it speaks a universal language that can fit all for global recognition but also have a local touch that makes it unique.
Special artisan skills were needed for two main elements within the project which are the customed peacock sculpture and a local hand-crafted gold-leaf Thai traditional way at the reception counter.
The designer hopes that this project which has been developed from local culture in modern language is a design that can easily tell as story about its roots without speaking.
