Hyatt Hotels Stratford by Scott Brownrigg

Scott Brownrigg have been shortlisted for Hotel Design – UK Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2023.

Scott Brownrigg, an award-winning international design firm, was commissioned for the refurbishment of a single building into a 225-room Hyatt Regency and 127-room Hyatt House hotel located in Westfield Stratford City. The aim of the project was to create a new destination for business and leisure travellers in the East End of London.

The interior design concept of the hotels subtly references the Victorian Golden Age of train travel. The archways, typical of London’s railway, are used to form entrances to common spaces and inspire bespoke detailing throughout. Brass light fittings, marble fixtures, luxury velvet furnishings and jewel colours create a contemporary take on the glamour and travel of the 1920s. The bar and dining booths are designed to provide an elegant feature and are an understated nod to a Victorian railway carriage.

The interior design reflects the history of the location and creates a striking identity for the new hotels. The spacious lobby on the third floor features a range of seating arrangements ideal for socialising, focused work or meetings during the day and intimate dining and cocktails at night. Hyatt Regency rooms feature fresh interiors with bold splashes of colour and high-quality brass fittings, including bespoke designed ‘pill’ lights and details on the mini bar area. Hyatt House rooms provide modern, apartment-style suites with fully equipped kitchens and flexible workspaces. Guests also enjoy access to 6,673 sq ft of meeting space, a gym and an open-air terrace.

Connectivity is key to the project, and the interior design mirrors the connectivity of Stratford. The hotels are located within walking distance of all the fast-growing amenities that Stratford and the surrounding area has to offer. The two hotels, now open, have created a vibrant new destination for Stratford, contributing to the business and leisure offering of what is fast becoming the most exciting cultural region in the UK.

Scott Brownrigg has successfully transformed an existing building into an exciting new destination that blends modern luxury with the area’s rich history. The firm has created a unique identity for the Hyatt Regency and Hyatt House hotels, catering for both business and leisure travellers. The use of archways, brass light fittings, marble fixtures and velvet furnishings offer a contemporary take on the glamour and travel of the past, while the layout of the hotels promotes connectivity and social interaction. The completion of the project is a testament to Scott Brownrigg’s ability to create a space that is not only visually striking but also caters to the needs of its users.
