ESS Group have been shortlisted for Hotel Under 200 Rooms – Europe Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2021.

After almost 15 years of creating spa and hotel resorts, ESS Group did not hold back on their design vision for Ellery Beach House. Crossing Miami and Florida design with the best elements of Scandinavia, this resort combines, sports, relaxation, recreation, partying and a lot of love.

Ellery Beach House is new kind of spa resort located in the archipelago outside Stockholm at the far end of Lidingö. It has been designed with a love for the 60’s and 70’s, noticeable in the use of pastel colours, contrasting elements and wooden textures for a warm and welcoming atmosphere. ESS Group describe Ellery as their crown jewel, bringing all their experience into this project.

Externally, the building is integrated with the many trees and water that surrounds it. ESS Group worked with the brown tones on the outside to embrace the environment but these tones are also used with a stronger impression on the interior. Lidingö is an island where the trees and the water come as close as they can. The three spacious outdoor pools are specially designed to integrate with the other environments and buildings -all of these have a view of the Stockholm archipelago.

ESS Group’s key aspects for Ellery was the strong entrance, detail in design, and their courage dared to believe in their concept. The expansive entrance welcomes guests, and the boules court, open fire and two paddle courts strengthen the vision of a new kind of destination. A large lobby bar replaces the reception. Shuffleboards, table tennis and billiards are mixed with large sofas and beautiful art on the walls. Wood is combined with metal and soft materials with bold colours for a strong yet warm ambience, and the room is filled with furniture and detail. The details provide a common thread of the design being so “non-Scandinavian”.

The design for Ellery’s bars and restaurants is intended to create strong impressions and a lot of Instagram moments. Bally Bar replaces reception and is centred around the open fire. Palmers is the restaurant that welcomes guests first. Soft and comfortable with the highest class of materials, this space still has a strong presence. Down in the club “Coco”, the power is stronger and the expression more sensual and wilder. Corridors are dark and create curiosity, with the rooms offering views of water, pine and spruce.
