Tell us a little about your background in design:

I graduated in 2003 with a First class BA Hons in Screen-print surface design at London College of Printing.

I started as freelance designer working for various editor brands as well as designing and printing bespoke wallpapers for private clients.

My first collection was hand a screen-printed wallpaper collection – the silhouette collection which launched in 2005.

In 2007, I joined the Zoffany design team which then led on to managing the design studio.

How would you describe your personal design style?

Eclectic, my time working on the Zoffany brand has given me a unique insight and appreciation of archival design, reinterpreting them with a modern and artisan techniques resulting in classic contemporary aesthetic.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

Everywhere, travel, archive and most of all collaboration, mixing ideas with like-minded creatives and manufacturers to create something unique and beautiful.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

I hope we are moving further away from a throw away culture. I believe we will need to connect more with our purchases, to understand their cultural provenance and environment journey, to treasure them so they are not so easily replaced.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2020 and beyond.

  • Environmental impact
  • Longevity / quality
  • Design integrity
  • Collaboration, mixing of old and new thought pattens, supporting uniqueness
  • Design should enrich life and be beautiful

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?

Design should evoke a bespoke emotional reaction which connects and reflect each customer tastes and needs.
