An update from Winch Design Studio

AINO-LEENA GRAPIN, CEO OF WINCH DESIGN:

“As we are coming up to a month of working remotely I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on life at Winch Design – our projects, our people and
our partners.

It has been a challenging time for everyone, but I think that alongside these inevitable challenges, we are all learning much about how we work, what is important and how we are able to function in a new environment. I have no doubt that many of these lessons will continue once we are back in our studios.

As always, our priority is keeping our clients’ dreams alive and we are still very much able to do that. We are finding the creative process is in many ways enhanced by the time and space to think. Most of our projects start with a concept phase which lasts several months so this aspect is unchanged. The design elements continue remotely with design reviews and updates successfully taking place via video conferencing. Nothing replaces the value of a true relationship created and sustained by face-to-face meetings, but we are confident that we can work effectively and creatively at
this time.

Our projects are all moving forward, some with short delays, but we have all been delighted to see our various partners – yards, suppliers, contractors and others making such huge efforts to deliver the projects we create.

In the Yachts studio, work continues apace on several projects due for delivery in 2020/21 including our 5th completion in the Amels 74m series, and ‘Black Shark’ building at Nobiskrug.

We are focussed on developing sailing yacht projects as part of our commitment to a more sustainable future and have a new production boat planned with Jeanneau as well as a 41m schooner for a private client.

Our 88ft sloop is also progressing well and finally, we are delighted to have recently been appointed for the interior of the first Amels 60 project for delivery in 2022.

In the Aviation studio, our Boeing Dreamliner project continues, with delivery still on track for the end of the year and we are also on schedule to deliver two ACJ 320s in early 2021.

The Architecture studio is delighted to have signed a new project in Asia during the lockdown period and has several other new enquiries and pitches on the go. We are close to finishing our Seychelles project and will deliver our Cape Town residence in June.

We are so very grateful to be in this position and are using our resources to look at ways we can help others.

Our people are always at the heart of what we do – now an extended family of around 100, it is more important than ever that we continue to support and nurture the team. During this period, we have put in place additional initiatives, from mental health support to a weekly internal magazine to keep us all connected and spirits high.

We hope that you are all well and navigating these bizarre times as we are! And of course, please reach out to us if we can be of any assistance.”

My very best,
Aino-Leena Grapin
