Tell us a little about your background in design:
Berkeley Interior Architecture and Design, American River College, Interior Design, launched Kristen Elizabeth Design in 2015 for an epic chapter 2 beginning!

How would you describe your personal design style?
I am a true minimalist. It calms me. I love soft pastel hues with bursts of jewel tones. I love art and nature and integrate the colors and originality where ever I can.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
My design inspiration literally is gut driven. It is a feeling that bubbles up, a sense of what a space should be. I research great designers looking for a spark and apply.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
I feel design is intensely focused on sustainable resources, earth friendly brands and an organic approach.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2022 and beyond.
Sustainability, natural and renewable elements, technology and smart design, home/work integration.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
Keep it simple. Always pull it back, what can you eliminate to create a feeling that speaks to the user or occupant.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
They are the MOST important awards and the MOST respected in the industry. I am honored to be shortlisted.

What projects are you currently working on?
Lots of home remodels and a new secret retail chain specializing in wellness products.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?
One of my favorite projects was a thriving yoga studio in Midtown Sacramento, so much synchronicity between the owners and the design team.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
Currently, we are working on one of our hardest projects because the design intention and level of detail is much more intense in specificity. The clients are very detailed and continuously challenge us, ultimately, a very good thing!

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?
We have an extensive onboarding process. We get to know our clients pretty well. I would never skip the onboarding. It has saved us MANY times.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
In the next 12 months, we plan to hire 2 additional team members, establish an online product presence and WIN one of our of categories in the International Design & Architecture Awards!

Final thoughts; tell us a little more about yourself and your daily inspirations:

Your most treasured possession?
My grandmother gave me a frosted statue of the Virgin Mary that I was obsessed with as a little girl. It is very sentimental, despite my differing spiritual beliefs.

Ocracoke, NC, USA.

Restaurant: Bix San Francisco
Hotel: A private villa in St. Barths
Bar: Murphs, Sag Harbor NY

Your favourite book, film & song?
Favorite book: Kafka By The Shore, by Haruki Murakami
Film: Spaceballs
Song: So Many, can’t be just one!

Your favourite food and drink?
Give me a plate of pasta any day and a martini and I am set!

Your favourite way to spend an afternoon?
Hiking in the mountains, working on my business and connecting with my family.

If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?
A rock star for sure.
