Gerhard Architect have been shortlisted for Luxury Residence – Global Award in The International Design and Architecture 2021.

This modern architectural home by Gerhard Architect welcomes it’s Ballito environment. Having been seamlessly integrated into the site, the family home takes full advantage of it’s forest surrounds and sea views without sacrificing clean, contemporary design.

Gerhard Architect’s design embraces a coalescence of an eco-friendly home and a modern architectural piece of art. The family home needed to be functional with a practical and spacious open plan design. With its unique environment, the design team focussed on a seamless integration between inside and outside living. A continuation of this is the rim-flow pool where the residents can enjoy and feel enveloped by their surroundings. The result is a contemporary eco-friendly family home, embracing the site and orientation whilst maximizing the distant sea-views.

The designers looked to keep a separation of private and entertainment spaces. Between the two areas was a strong focus on the views that are offered, and creating a sense of arrival. It’s strong, bold elements and clean lines keep the architecture modern yet timeless, and still ensures a homely feel.

The design works so well as it was built for the client’s needs whilst being respectful of its location. It is nestled into the site, embrace the greenbelt and forest frontage whilst maximising the stunning sea views. It is not at odds with the site but rather at one with it. Only one tree had to be relocated to allow for the design implementation and natural ventilation is the main form of cooling in this warm subtropical climate.
