SCHLOSS Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course, set in the Scottish borders in the county of Roxburghshire, has been modernised and expanded by Kitzig Design Studios. The concept of this projects was to conserve the history of the hotel and embrace it’s location, whilst reviving the interior design.

The idea for the design of the stately country house and future luxury hotel was inspired by the unique, traditional character of Scottish culture and landscape. The concept revolves around the historic charm and appeal of these impressive premises. Kitzig Design Studios had ensured that heritage features are preserved, staged and highlighted by a modern, luxurious interior and a sophisticated lighting concept.

The cultural influences of the region are reflected in authentic wooden fittings, atmospheric fireplaces and bays which have been accentuated by interior details. Stylish indirect lighting emphasises the imposing ceiling stucco, echoed in every room of the main house. Exclusive upholstery fabrics, high-quality finishes and a colour scheme tailored to the tartan of the former owner, the Duke of Roxburgh, give the rooms a distinctive atmosphere.

The authenticity of the historic rooms of SCHLOSS Roxburghe is expressed through Kitzig Design Studios’ implementation of a classic British style – one that permeates the entire interior design concept. A typical Scottish colour scheme emerges in a variety of nuances on walls and antique furniture. Textile wallpapers in floral design combined with checked upholstery fabrics add individual personality to the suites and radiate the pure charm of noble elegance. Precious ceiling and skirting boards stylishly encircle the historic chambers. With atmospheric fireplaces and numerous bay windows, the cultural influences of the region are reflected in the interior design of the rooms.

Rather than renewing the wall surfaces, irregularities were only partially removed to retain the typical traces of decades gone by that communicate the historic charm of the old manor house’s rooms. Kitzig Design Studios’ aim was to preserve most of Schloss Roxburghe’s sensitive structure while simultaneously creating a contemporary interior design; consequentially finding balance in modern and traditional design.
