A formal Mediterranean exterior which transitions to a more contemporary open floor plan and interior design with classic tones. The project was to take advantage of a wide lot within a design guideline-controlled community requiring a formal Mediterranean style. The architect developed a broad frontal facade giving the impression of a much larger house.

The interior design was inspired by the exterior but also reflects the more modern lifestyle and aesthetic of the client. Large sliding pocket doors opening onto covered loggias across the rear were designed to maximize indoor-outdoor living and entertaining. Indoor-outdoor connecting spaces were carefully designed to relate to each other despite the slight difference in direction to create a more seamless continuous feel. With the intent to entertain frequently, great care was taken to create drama with focal points and indirect lighting.

A great deal of indirect lighting in coves and toe kicks were incorporated to ensure the home would glow beautiful. This adds to the dramatic and high contrast focal points that really make the design standout. While the exterior of the house is a traditional and formal Northern Italian style, the interior is a more contemporary open floor plan designed for a modern lifestyle and aesthetic.  Classic details were incorporated into the interior architecture to connect interior and exterior spaces.

The lot is on a street running along a high ridge parallel to the Pacific Ocean. The longitudinal layout of the floor plan allows for two secondary bedrooms to share the canyon views while the Master Suite spans the right side of the house with both ocean and canyon views.
