Project Name: Gingko Sky Bar – VP Plaza España Design Hotel

Location: Madrid, Spain

Date Completed: February 2018

Interior Designer: Diego Gronda

Architect: Maya Molina

Hotel Group/Developer: VP Hoteles

The Gingko Sky Bar is located on the 12th floor of the VP Plaza España Design Hotel and its design highlights the panoramic views and the environment of Plaza de España. The panoramic views over the rooftops of Madrid and the verdant surrounding of the Plaza make it an exceptional space in the capital. Studio Gronda designed the interiors to frame different experiences in a memorable way for its guests whilst maintaining luxury standards.

The Gingko Sky bar melts into its surroundings, blending the limits between the outside and inside. Within the bar, faceted mirrored ceilings reflect and integrate the trees from the exterior. The solarium that surrounds the bar has a glass-bottomed pool that allows natural light to fill the hotel. The bar was conceived as a space that could easily transform itself for multiple uses: bar, private lounge, chill out area and dancing area.

The dialogue between the vegetation in the Plaza de España and the building is one the underlying threads in the new hotel’s design. The independent lobby for the wellness zone and Ginko Sky Bar is framed by laser-cut, engraved metal sheets that represenet the ginko leaf, while the inside recreates a wooded forest with corrugated wood panels that rely on lighting effects to create a natural ambiance.

Studio Gronda has enabled the Gingko Sky Bar the ability to adapt to different experiences, without losing their essence. Spaces conceived by and for continuous transformation.
