A modern, minimalist style holiday retreat for the busy owners of this contemporary new build property on the south Devon Coast. Rachel Cropper Studio were fortunate to collaborate with the construction team just at the right time enabling the important selection of fittings and hard finishes to be seamlessly integrated into the build. Large format porcelain concrete effect tiles set the tone for the space, allowing the sleek Italian furniture to fit seamlessly into the pared down but welcoming surroundings.

For the busy Gloucestershire based owners, Rachel Cropper Studio were tasked with creating a comfortable but clean environment in which they could fully retreat to. Nestled in the beautiful hills of the Salcombe Estuary the views across the bar to the front of the house called out for a place to sit and contemplate. Rachel Cropper Studio designed the library to do exactly that.

With the brief being ‘ultra-modern’ the designers set about sourcing mid-century pieces they knew would stand the test of time. Elbow chairs form one side of seating to the dining table whilst an Arco floor lamp hangs gently over. Wishbone chairs provide seating to the breakfast bar.

Art played a large part in the coming together of the wonderful first floor open space. ‘The Theory of Everything’ hangs big, deep and blue to the kitchen wall mimicking the natural surroundings around it whilst ‘St Mary’s Path’ offers a fresh, green, calm vibe as you enter the room. Rugs divide the spaces forming zones with an added layer of comfort.

Bathrooms were to be minimalist by the client’s standards, Rachel Cropper Studio used a Hessian effect large format porcelain tile to give the walls texture. The family bathroom is clad head to toe in Library marble from Fired Earth. The soft velvet feel gives this small room a feeling of opulence, a spa style space to hide away.

This project perfectly combines the pared back simplicity of open plan living whilst giving the feeling of somewhere to spend time in comfort and calm.
