Project Name: Knightsbridge Apartment

Location: Knightsbridge, London

Date Completed: February 2018

Interior Designer: JHR Interior Architecture and Design Ltd

JHR Interior Architecture and Design Ltd were appointed by the client of a Knightsbridge property to create a luxurious space where they could reside on their visits to London in their recently purchased home. This project was the first of two phases for this apartment, encompassing the refurbishment of the apartment. The client plans to initiate the second phase in the near future, where they will be combing this apartment to another adjacent, which they have just purchased.

The apartment is located in an affluent area of London, very close to a number of World-Class luxury hotels which the client had stayed in and wanted to replicate. The client has a large family which they wanted to be able to host and entertain in their apartment. Comfortable and luxurious interiors and a feeling of space was very important to them. They were particular about having a rich palette of colours and textures and wanted to bring a touch of opulence to their London home. JHR Interior Architecture and Design Ltd presented a number of concept images with the client and used the ones they liked to form the basis of the schemes for the rooms.

JHR Interior Architecture and Design Ltd particularly enjoyed proposing configuration options for the living & dining space – it is a large square room, and initially the designers found this challenging in terms of creating different areas within the room, whilst still maintaining the large open feel. The client was keen to have a lot of seating for gathering with their family, but JHR wanted to give them space for the quieter moments in life as well, and creating a reading corner by the window and breakfast nook was part of giving the client a more varied and functional space.

JHR Interior Architecture and Design Ltd feel the design works well as it gives the client that luxury hotel feel but also with the functionality of being a family home. The apartment has great proportions, but the challenge was to make it feel like a comfortable space for the client and their family to enjoy. Mixing practical, hardwearing fabrics with more detailed, decadent finishes was key to achieving this. Another challenge JHR faced was how to pull the natural light through the spaces, with windows all located on one wall. The designers used reflective surfaces to allow light to bounce through the property. For example, they installed light-coloured marble flooring in the bedrooms, which made a big difference in terms of making the rooms feel brighter.
