Nicola Holden Designs have been Shortlisted for Living Space – London Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2021.
Nicola Holden Designs have created an elegant living and dining space, designed for wellness and infused with natural colour, pattern and texture. The clients wanted a home that was not only aesthetically pleasing but would also support their well-being using biophilic design and colour psychology.
DESIGNERS IN PROFILE: LAUREN MATTHEWS AND LOUISE REA MANAGING DIRECTORS OF MATTHEWS REA
Matthews Rea have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – UK Award in The International Design & Architecture Awards.
How would you describe your personal design style?
Lauren: My design taste has evolved over the past decade or so. I used to gravitate towards neutral tones and taupe finishes, I now appreciate the use of colour in a space and my own home is currently an eclectic palette of neutrals with burnt oranges and dusky greens. Quality is paramount and I would rather invest in a piece that will stand the test of time and potentially become an heirloom.
Louise: My style has always been a mixture of classic and contemporary. I like to mix things up a bit and bring personality into a space. My main emphasis has always been on fine detail and quality whenever possible. I like to research artisan makers and, develop ideas with true craftsmen to bring individuality to my own home.

The design brief was to create a contemporary feel to a traditional countryside home highlighting the architectural details. The inspiration for this project was strongly led by the client, as they had some very clear and specific ideas about what they were looking to achieve. Rigby & Rigby guided the client to ensure the designers could turn their ideas and concepts into a working reality, as well as ensure that all the disparate ideas came together in a harmonious fashion.
